Adult Programs
Friendship is powerful medicine! Anyone striving for good mental health knows that the support of friends is a crucial component to getting through tough times and sharing the excitement of good times. Being a Compeer volunteer allows you to be a friend to someone who may have no one else but you. Everyone one needs someone to listen, to care, to be there.
In the Adult Program, volunteers are screened, trained and matched in supportive friendships with a professionally referred adult receiving mental health services. Volunteers have the opportunity to offer emotional and social support to adults to help fight the isolation and loneliness often accompanying a mental illness. Four hours a month is all it takes to help someone cope with the loneliness and isolation of mental illness! It is as simple as going for a walk, enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation, or doing anything that friends do.
Training and ongoing support is provided to all volunteers.
Compeer currently has close to 50 adults matched in the program, however there are still over 40 adults waiting for a friend. Call (315) 735-1066 or e-mail us today at friends@compeermv.org for more information on how you can be a supportive friend.
